Worlds largest Cruise Ship Nears Completion in Helsinki

In Helsinki, Finland the worlds largest cruise ship is undergoing completion. The ‘Oasis of the Seas” is being completed with final fittings for its eventual initial duty in the Caribbean Sea.

At 1200 feet in length with 16 decks the ship is the largest cruise ship ever built. The ship can accommodate 6,300 passengers and a crew of 3000.

It includes a skating rink, 750 seat theatre, full size basket ball court and a miniature golf course. The ship has four swimming pools. Consider that at any given time this is a city on the sea with almost ten thousand citizens.

What was the cost for this little dinghy? A mere 2.5 billion dollars. A sister ship is under construction for launch in 2010.

As many segments of the travel industry suffer under the weight of a global recession Royal Caribbean International manages to easily… stay afloat.

Royal Caribbean International sails to 170 destinations around the world, from galcier treks in Alaska to cave tubing in Belize.
