Boston – Beacon Hill, Boston Common, Harvard, Quincy Market and the Independence Trail. And beer. They have rye beer, English-style stout, Irish-style red ale and of course the American-style pale ale.

The first thing you should do in Boston is get a go-anywhere Charlie Ticket. It’s a great deal at (£7.70) for seven days or (£4.60) for 24 hours. You can buy it at the airport. Park and Boylston are the key stations for Boston Common, while South Station will take you up Atlantic Avenue and the financial district. The Red Line goes to Harvard.

Boston’s waterfront is where they tipped the tea chests at the Boston Tea Party and tea is served in style in this city. The Ritz-Carlton offers tea and home-made biscuits at £5 for two.

Shopping abounds in Boston. Washington Street is full of discount shops and Macy’s. Prudential Centre is where you will find Saks Fifth Avenue and Lord & Taylor. The Copley Place Mall offers 100 stores, including Neiman Marcus.

The cobbled streets are packed with history. Freedom Trail is a two-mile long red brick line in the sidewalk. It will lead you past famous old buildings all the way to Quincy Market and then into the Italian Quarter. After that, it is over the Charles River into old Charlestown. You can grab a sandwich at the Sorrelle Café. Bunker Hill is the last stop, where the British were defeated and America was born.
