Travelling with kids can certainly be a challenge, regardless of whether you are the caregiver or a passenger. In general, children are not patient or overly understanding of delays, noise levels, or the comfort of others. Because of this, children really have gotten a bad reputation as bad travellers. This doesn’t have to happen to you and your kids though. There are actually several tips that can help you and your children travel happily and stress free.

Nap Time Travel

Depending on the age of your children, scheduling a flight during their nap time is actually a great idea. Many parents think this is a bad idea at first because they worry about their child not being able to fall asleep on a plane. However, most young children will be easily lulled to sleep while in their mother’s arms. A sleeping child means a comfortable and quite trip for everyone!

Diversions

For children who are accustomed to being active it can be quite difficult to sit still for hours at a time with nothing to do. Parents who take along diversions will have significantly more successful trips than parents who don’t. Consider buying new toys that will catch your child’s attention. You may also want to buy their favourite candy and/or suckers that may be given periodically as treats if they behave. A well timed sucker may be all it takes to keep your little one quite for another hour!

Well Fed

Before you board a plane or any other type of transportation be sure to feed your child. Most of the time the food served by airlines is less than appetizing and if your child gets too hungry a meltdown is inevitable. Make sure your little one eats before getting on the plane and that you have plenty of snacks packed in case they get hungry during the trip.

These are just a few tips that any parent can follow and that will significantly reduce any problems you might have travelling with your children. Besides allowing you to sit back and relax, having your kids happy, well fed, and potentially asleep, will be greatly appreciated by the other travellers.
