Ski in Courchevel
The French ski resort of Courcheval is in the Savoie region of eastern France. It is part of a network of pistes that is Les Trois Vallees, a huge ski zone that includes Meribel and Val Thorens. It is considered the largest ski area in the world with 400 miles of slopes and over 180 lifts.
Courchevel is comprised of 1300 acres of mountain and is divided into four distinct enclaves. There is Courchevel 1300, the lowest, Courchevel 1550, a little higher, with hotels and restaurants, Courchevel 1650, the village of Moriond, and Courcevel 1850, the highest and the liveliest of the four, with eateries and bars.
Courchevel is very close to the Italian border and the scenery is lovely. The Vanoise National Park is near and Mont Blanc, Europe’s tallest mountain is visible from the slopes.
This is a ski area to please all abilities. There are ten black and 38 red runs for the less brave, and 27 green and 44 blue runs for those who know no fear.
There is also a toboggan run. It runs for a mile and a half, snaking and plunging until it reaches 1550 where a gondola will return riders back to the 1850.
