Carbon offsetting is important, but so is decreasing our environmental footprint – wherever it lands – and encouraging everyone else to do the same.
Jetblue are not only making efforts to reduce their impact on their customers wallets, but also on the environment.
All of jetblue’s fleet are new, fuel efficient aircrafts, and they are always looking for ways to reduce the fuel burn, and greenhouse gas emissions in a safe manner.
Some of the initiatives they are taking include;
* Recycling spent fuel and oil/filters when available (such as at JFK international airport) – This allows the recycling of up to 1’500 gallons of fuel and oil, and around 600 lbs of steel each MONTH.
*Use of only one engine for runway ‘taxi’ manouvors
* Installing lighter aircraft seats and LED lighting
* Connecting the aircrafts to a ground source for electricity, instead of using the engines power to for air conditioning etc.
* Not using disposable headsets, and encouraging customers to fetch their own, thus reducing waste
All in all, flying with jetblue.com can help save you money, whilst rewarding an airline that is taking the initiative for ‘green up’ air travel as much as they can.
