Flying across timezones, both the passengers and flight crew aboard British Airways flights may well ring in the New Year several times on December 31st 2009.

Some travellers may even choose to celebrate the New Year in, say, sidney – and then fly westward bound, to nip back to 2008 briefly! Another possibility would be to celebrate the New Year in London, and travel East.

A total of 66 BA flights – as well as over thirteen thousand passegners are scheduled to be in the air at midnight (GMT) on NYE, and BT say that the flight crew will be on hand to help ensure that the flyers bring in the New Year in comfort.

Suzanne Lowther, a member of the BA cabin crew, stated:

“Whenever possible we try to celebrate on board and ensure that passengers have a truly memorable experience. My most notable New Year was spent celebrating three times over. We flew out of Australia and passed midnight Sydney-time on route to Bangkok. When we arrived in Thailand we watched a spectacular firework display, and then stayed up to see in the New Year London-time with a breakfast party in the hotel restaurant”.

This year, over three thousand of British Airway’s crew are set to be working onboard planes flying to and from Seventy Four countires worldwide.
