At present, it seems the entire world is in financial crisis, and this results in some currencies being unusually stronger than others. Currently, the British pound is weaker than usual against either the Euro or US Dollar. While this presents a problem for UK residents travelling to destinations in the US or Europe, it increases the tourism in the UK by individuals with dollars and Euros to spend.

Recent figures show that individuals taking holidays abroad has already dropped 25% in 2009. What this means, however, is more UK individuals will choose to take their holidays in the UK itself. The increasing number of UK residents taking holidays at home, as well as increasing numbers of foreigners visiting the UK due to their currency being stronger against the pound sterling may help the local economy considerably and potentially help the pound regain some of its value.

Many UK hotels and resorts are noticing the increase in demand for their services and are quite pleased with the business. Of course, with the way the world markets are reacting there could be a change to any of these currencies at any time resulting in additional upheaval and a change in how the markets react.

Currently, the exchange rate is enough to offer those with dollars and Euros excellent rates when paying in pounds.

For now, perhaps the UK should advertise and market its exchange rate with the Euro and the dollar to increase tourism and take advantage of the situation for as long as it lasts.
