A five star hotel might offer the lap of luxury, but in the midst of a global financial crisis this might not be the best accommodation choice for your budget. Luckily, there are still other options available including more affordable hotels as well ultra affordable hostels. It is important to evaluate what you want out of your accommodations and what you are able to spend. You should make reservations in a hotel if you can’t imagine sharing a room with anyone other than your immediate family members. In a hotel, you will pay for a room and it will be your private room until you check out. Most hotels offer basic amenities like private bathrooms, television, telephone, towels, room service, and even maid service.
 
If you can’t imagine traveling without any of these amenities then there is no reason for you to think of a hostel because you simply would not be pleased. In most hostels you will have to share the bathroom with others staying at the hostel and in many cases you will share a large room with other hostel visitors. In many cases there are no amenities and the ones that do exist, like television, are usually shared in a community area.
 
Some hostels do offer continental breakfast that is a serve-yourself kind of meal, but many others don’t. There are many types of hostels from those that are part of hostel organizations and others that are not. If you can deal with the sacrifices then staying in a hostel is certainly the most affordable option.
