Bollywood film locations in Switzerland

Switzerland has long been associated with the Indian film industry. With its beautiful scenery it has provided the backdrop for some of India’s Bollywood blockbusters.

The Financial Times, Switzerland Tourism, the city of Lucerne and Kuoni Travels Indian operation, have sponsored several ads encouraging Indians to travel to some of the regions where these movies were filmed.

A larger and growing number of Indians can afford foreign holidays, in fact, a total of 12 million in 2009.

‘Indians are tired of seeing Manhattan only in Hindi films,’ Suhel Seth, managing director of Counselage, a brand and marketing consultancy, told the newspaper.

‘Today, he can be part of the scene by going there – so he is going. It’s no longer impossible.’

Zubin Karkaria, CEO and Managing Director of Kuoni India and South Asia, said: ‘Bollywood is deep-rooted in the psyche of most Indians, and it gives us immense pleasure to be able to offer our customers a taste of Yash Chopra and Yash Raj Films’ several blockbuster films shot in Switzerland.

‘We are convinced that this will be a very successful project, where we would be able to offer our customers an authentic Bollywood experience on our tours to Europe.’
