Aldi Travel- The Latest Travel Comparison Site

As the travel industry enters it’s traditional busiest period, discount supermarket giant  Aldi announces it is set to join the travel market. Given that 20% of summer holidays are booked at this time of the year, they may have got the timing just right. Aldi says it will be using the same business model it employs in the supermarket chain, they will offer a limited range of destinations but want to focus on volume and aim to undercut regular tour operators by 20-30%.

Already the second largest travel agent in Austria and with a presence in Switzerland and Germany they are hoping to break into the rest of Europe in the same way they gained success with retail sales. They will offer around six exclusive deals every fortnight on their website including Portugal, Spain, Turkey, Greece and Cyprus and customers will be able to book online whilst planning the weeks shopping. Although the discount supermarkets tend to fare well during economic instability there are fears that a weak pound will encourage those who can afford to holiday to travel outside the Eurozone where the influence of the weak pound won’t be felt.
